USPAP Update Course and Free Loss Prevention Seminar for Alaska Appraisers

Appraiser Bill King of William King & Associates and attorney Peter Christensen of LIA and READI have teamed up to give two very important CE seminars for Alaska appraisers on back-to-back days in Anchorage. These courses will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn -- Anchorage Airport, 4555 Union Square Dr., Anchorage, AK 99503, hotel phone: (907) 729-7000.

2010 USPAP Update Course -- 7 CE Hours
On February 28, 2011, Bill will be offering the 2010 USPAP Update Course (AK Appraiser Course No. 9528), 7 CE hours, also approved in WA (Course AP2442). This is the National USPAP update course that fulfills the 7-hour requirement established by the Appraiser Qualification Board (AQB) of The Appraisal Foundation. The Appraisal Foundation requires that each student have their own copy of the current (2010-2011) Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and their own copy of the 7-hour National USPAP update course Student Manual – both publications are included in the course fee. The course fee is $245.00 paid in advance. To register for Bill's USPAP update course and receive more information about it, please email Bill at billking@valueone.com.

Free Loss Prevention Program for Real Estate Appraisers -- 7 CE Hours
On March 1, 2011, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Peter will present Loss Prevention Program for Real Estate Appraisers (AK Appraiser Course No. 9803) 7 CE hours, also approved for 7 CE hours in WA, OR, TX and WI. Peter is the general counsel of LIA and director of READI. The seminar addresses legal claims and issues affecting residential and commercial appraisers. The information is based on actual claims and lawsuits. In addition to the interesting facts involved in many of the cases, the seminar provides specific instruction about how appraisers can reduce problems that lead to lawsuits and how to be prepared if it happens. We will also discuss the spike in FDIC litigation, as well as indemnification clauses and other problematic provisions in appraiser contracts.

The cost of the loss prevention seminar is free to appraisers who meet both of the following conditions: (1) are registered for membership with READI at readimember.org, and (2) provide proof of having completed a 7-hour USPAP update class (or 15-hour USPAP class) during the current Alaska licensing/CE cycle ending June 30, 2011. Tthe USPAP class must be completed before 3/1/11 and can be Bill’s class on 2/28/11, the Appraisal Institute's Alaska Chapter class on 2/25/11, or a different class). The cost for appraisers who do not meet these conditions but wish to take the class anyway is $125.

By taking the loss prevention seminar, appraisers who are insured by LIA's E&O program with Liberty Mutual also become eligible for either a $25 or $50 discount on their E&O premium depending on their level of coverage.

Registration for the Loss Prevention Program for Real Estate Appraisers seminar is by email to class@readimember.org. Questions about registering for READI or about the loss prevention seminar should also be directed to the same email address.
