Presentation of LIA's Loss Prevention Program to North Bay Chapter of the California Real Estate Appraisers Association on January 19, 2012 in Petaluma, CA

LIA and READI are pleased to support the North Bay Chapter of the California Real Estate Appraisers Association by presenting their 4-Hour CE seminar "Loss Prevention Program for Real Estate Appraisers" at a meeting of the North Bay Chapter on January 19, 2012, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in Petaluma.  Here is a link to the North Bay Chapter's sign-up page for the seminar.  The North Bay Chapter's has made this seminar free for members and $50 for non-members -- which provides a good reason to join this great appraiser group.

Who makes claims against appraisers? What do they sue for?  When does the FDIC file a lawsuit? Can an appraiser be sued more than five years after the appraisal – i.e., what are the relevant statutes of limitation?  How long should an appraiser keep a work file? Do residential or commercial appraisers face more risk?  What about review appraisers?  What does E&O insurance cover?  These are the types of questions answered by the seminar.

In 2011, more than 1,500 appraisers attended LIA’s presentations of its Loss Prevention Program in 19 states.  During the year, LIA presented the program at the Appraisal Institute’s Annual Meeting and also to the following appraiser groups: Association of Texas Appraisers, Mississippi Coalition of Appraisers, Appraisers’ Coalition of Washington, Arizona Association of Real Estate Appraisers, California Real Estate Appraisers Association, and Colorado Association of Real Estate Appraisers.

Appraisers who are insured by LIA’s E&O program with Liberty Mutual, or who purchase E&O from LIA within a year after the seminar, become eligible for a one-time discount on their premium of $50 for a $500K or $1m per claim policy or $25 for a $300k per claim policy per appraiser by completing the Loss Prevention Program. This discount may be applied toward any payment due after the seminar.  Appraisers may claim the discount by showing a copy of their CE certificate to LIA.

Registration information for this seminar is on the North Bay Chapter's site here.
